Snape's Wand Wandsnape600

The wand of Severus Snape is of unknown length, wood and core. Presumably, Snape purchased this wand in 1971, when he was eleven years old and beginning at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Deduction from the the movie version: According to Rowling, she mainly used the Celtic wood calendar to determine wand's wood. Hence, Severus' wand could be made of birch though it's easy to suspect ebony! Somehow dark, black, hard and heavy wood sounds more like Severus' than black birch which is also called sweet birch and has a pale cherry wood colour!

I have a personal version (therefore just an interpretation, I can be wrong !) about Severus' wand. I use it in all my fanfics about him (two for the moment LOL !) :

- ebony, phoenix talon core, 13 inches

He's tall, so I guess that 13 inches seem fine. Well, I suppose that the wand knew beforehand he would be tall. Keep in mind that the wand chooses the wizard, not the reverse.

Phoenix talon core because it appealed to me. Phoenix because of the death/rebirth symbolism. Talon instead of feather - there are two other famous users of phoenix feathers, i.e. Harry and Voldemort. So I decided for a variant. The talon is what holds, grips, grabs and sometimes hurts. I think it suited well Severus' strong possessive nature (something I sense in him) that can hurt at the same time.

Ebony because it's black and his wand is black. I also found the following which suited him well from the description given for Ebony on a wandmaker's site about the various woods he uses : http://www.bardwood.com/woods.htm - very interesting site. This is what he says about Ebony :
Ebony is an exotic hardwood that comes from various sub-tropical climes. It is a wood that is used extensively for carving in Bali and in Africa because of its density and hardness. It is extremely difficult to carve, but the end result is a superb black wood (sometimes with lighter grain) that is very heavy and magnetically powerful. Ebony is not one of the sacred woods of the Celts, nor is it included in the version of the Elvish Ogham known to me. However, from working with this wood I have come to see it as a wand perfect for Dark Moon magic, those operations that seek to banish, dissolve, disapparate or cast off evil or outworn influences. The Elves tell me that it is a tree strongly attuned to Nienna, goddess of Memory and Forgetting, Joy and Sorrow. Ebony is quite a popular wood for wands, and is unquestionably very handsome. It's presence and energy is very strong, and so it is not a wood for the faint of heart. (the underlined emphasis is mine.)

Just my (long) two cents. I like to imagine him with such a wand. But I'd like to hear other people's ideas on the matter.

I love you theory. You're right, such a wand would definitely suit him.
